Lavender Massage

Lavender Massage is a highly structured and clean shop located in the busy Pratunam area that quickly became one of our favorite stops.

The vibe here is completely professional, and you can immediately tell that the staff went to school for massage and truly understand what they are doing.

It was so relaxing that Z actually fell asleep during the treatment, making it the perfect restorative break during a heavy day of local shopping.

You will love visiting this spot because it offers premium, reliable service right in the middle of a chaotic market district. My top tip is to head here right after browsing the nearby fashion stalls to give your feet a much-needed rest.

Did you know that the Pratunam district is famous for its labyrinth of wholesale clothing alleys, making a professional foot reflexology shop like this an absolute lifesaver for tired travelers?

PRICE: 250 Baht for a 60-minute foot massage

Khaosan Road Street Massage

The street-side massage setups on Khaosan Road offer an open-air, high-energy environment that is fantastic for treating heavy upper-body tension.

Z and I stopped here after a long day of walking and paid 300 Baht for a one-hour foot massage, though you can also get a combined foot, head, and neck treatment for 380 Baht.

The therapists give an excellent, deep deep-tissue massage that Z called the absolute best yet for his neck and shoulders.

You will love this experience because it lets you soak in the lively, music-filled atmosphere of Bangkok’s most famous nightlife street while getting premium muscle relief.

Just keep an eye on your clothing, as they use traditional tiger balm on your neck which can easily stain your shirt if you are not careful.

Did you know that Khaosan Road was historically a major rice market before it transformed into the world-famous backpacker hub that it is today?

BEST FOR: Travelers looking for deep pressure and an energetic, social vibe
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Easy sitting

We paid 250 Baht for a one-hour full-leg and foot massage, and Z opted for the neck and shoulder rub which was the exact same price. The treatment features intense local stretching techniques that feel quite painful in the moment but work absolute miracles on your muscles.

You will love this spot because it provides instant relief right when your legs feel like they are about to give up. Walking for miles on the concrete market floors can cause intense headaches and fatigue, and this quick stop acts as an immediate physical reset.

You will love visiting this sacred spot because it allows you to experience traditional healing arts in their truest, most historic form. It feels more like a cultural immersion than a standard spa appointment, making it an essential stop on any slow travel itinerary.

How to avoid massage scams in Bangkok?

To avoid massage scams in Bangkok, always make sure that the prices are clearly printed on an official menu outside the shop door before you walk inside. A common tourist trick involves staff quoting a low price verbally, then adding massive hidden fees for oils, towels, or room use at the end of the treatment.

Z and I also recommend paying for your session upfront at the main cashier desk, especially in busy areas like Chinatown, to prevent staff from charging you twice or pretending they forgot your payment (this is exactly what happened to us).

Finally, stay away from any aggressive promoters on the street who try to push you into dark back rooms, and stick to well-lit shops with visible massage chairs.

What is a normal Bangkok massage price per hour?

A normal and fair Bangkok massage price per hour for a standard traditional Thai or foot treatment ranges between 200 Baht and 300 Baht at local budget shops and street parlors. If you visit mid-range boutique chains or mall spas, prices generally sit between 300 Baht and 500 Baht per hour.

Anything over 600 Baht per hour should be reserved for high-end luxury hotel spas or premium private wellness centers.

If a shop in the city center quotes you less than 150 Baht per hour, be careful, as the facility may have low hygiene standards or look for ways to charge hidden fees at checkout.

Which Bangkok massage shops to avoid?

You should avoid massage shops attached directly to major nightlife hotels, like our experience at the Nana Hotel massage setup, where the beds were placed too close together with thin curtains, the service was inconsistent, and they charged 500 Baht for an inexperienced hot oil massage.

Stay far away from any venues where the staff look unhygienic, the carpets look stained, or the main entrance is completely blacked out with no visibility from the street.

You should also walk right past any venue where the street promoters are overly aggressive, pull on your arm, or refuse to show you a printed price menu.

What should a beginner expect at a Bangkok massage parlor?

A beginner should expect to remove their shoes immediately at the front door and step into a pair of provided indoor slippers. For a foot massage, you will sit in a large reclining chair in a shared room while the therapist washes your feet in warm water before the massage session.

For a full-body traditional Thai massage, you will be asked to take your clothes off and a robe might be provided (but not always), and you will lie on a mattress on the floor while the therapist uses their hands, elbows, and knees to stretch your entire body.

Traditional Thai massage does not use oils and involves significant stretching, so always tell your therapist if the pressure feels too intense.
