Not only is Lanzarote good for hiking, but it’s also ideal for walking.
With its distinctive and gorgeous terrains, you will have a great time exploring the island on foot.
It’s so refreshing to be outdoors and see breathtaking landscapes all around you.
So it’s no surprise why walking on nature trails is one of my favorite activities when I stayed in Lanzarote.

Montaña Roja | Climb Up The Red Mountain
If you ask other people where to hike in Playa Blanca, I bet you’d receive a unanimous recommendation.
Everyone will tell you to try Montaña Roja.
After all, crater hiking is among Lanzarote’s popular entertainment activities.
Montaña Roja, commonly known as the Red Mountain, is a dormant volcano that is true to its name.
This mountain that towers over the resort is famous for its reddish hue which somewhat resembles Mars’ surface.
Aside from its appearance, it is also a frequently visited attraction among holidaymakers because of its offered view.
At the top, you get to see a spectacular panorama of the resort’s coast and nearby islands like Fuerteventura and Los Lobos.
Like most hikes, its difficulty level may vary depending on your fitness level.
But I’d say the ascent and descent are both fairly manageable.
The overall hike can be done in less than an hour or so.
You don’t have to exert much effort, but I will advise you to be careful.
There are plenty of rocks and uneven grounds by the worn path.
Nevertheless, it’s a great spot to have an energizing walk in the morning and watch the sunrise.
PS, don’t forget to bring sunglasses and refreshments for your convenience.
Is Montana Roja Active?
No. Montana Roja is dormant, and its last known eruption dates back to 1730.

The 3-km hike to Montana Roja lasts around 40 minutes to an hour.
Playa Mujeres | Hike Then Swim
I often find a hike more satisfying whenever my endpoint is an exciting destination. Are you the same?
If yes, I suggest you try this quick hike from Playa Blanca to Playa Mujeres.
The trail next to Sandos Papagayo hotel is easily accessible and frequently used by beachgoers.
And after a 10-minute hike, you will reach the sensational Playa Mujeres.
Playa Mujeres is one of the five Papagayo beaches.
It’s as relaxing as the famous Papagayo beach but more spacious.
This beach has a long stretch of golden sand and clear turquoise waters.
It’s an ideal spot for swimming, sunbathing, and most especially — snorkeling.
The crystal clear waters will make it easy for you to see marine life like multicolored fish and manta rays.
However, make sure you bring everything you need before heading out because it has no facilities: no showers, sunbeds, toilets, or any nearby restaurants to dine in.
Still, walking and chilling on this beach is a delightful way to spend the day.
How Far Is It From Playa Blanca To Playa Mujeres?
The distance from Playa Blanca to Playa Mujeres is 4km (over 2 miles).
How Long Does It Take To Get From Playa Blanca To Playa Mujeres?
The bus 30 trip from Playa Blanca to Las Coloradas lasts around 23 minutes.
There is an 18-minute walk from the bus stop. So the total travel time is more or less 40 minutes.
Given you started on the trail by Sandos Papagayos, it will only take you approximately 10 minutes on foot.
Papagayo Beach | Hike from Playa Blanca All The Way To Papagayo Beach
Hike from Playa Blanca all the way to Papagayo Beach if you want a long journey with a rewarding destination.
You can take the same path you used to reach Playa Mujeres from Playa Blanca.
Walk farther from that point and just past Playa del Pozo — the splendid Papagayo Beach awaits you.
The hiking trail from Playa Blanca (Sandos Papagayo) to Playa del Papagayo is 2 km long.
Many people go to the beach on foot and consider the path easy.
But it’s essential to note that no shades are available in the area.
So, bring lots of drinking water with you, especially if you’re going on a hot, sunny day.
Like Playa Mujeres, Papagayo beach is inside Los Ajaches Natural Park.
You will instantly know if you’ve already reached Papagayo Beach because of the cove’s iconic shape.
This picturesque beach is the most well-known among all Papagayo beaches for its distinctive beauty.
The secluded beach is protected from the wind by large cliffs — a lovely spot that’s perfect for extreme relaxation.
There are plenty of viewpoints in the area where you can take photos with stunning backgrounds. Indeed, it deserves to be one of the most Instagrammable spots in Lanzarote.
Faro de Punta Pechiguera | A Walk Towards The Lighthouse
Many people are fond of walking along the promenade of Playa Blanca heading to the lighthouse.
This easy and lovely stroll typically lasts for an hour and a half.
But if you walk fast and have a steady pace, you will definitely complete this in a much shorter time.
The coastal walk starts from the Playa Blanca town center.
From there, you only need to walk on the promenade. You constantly see your destination while walking, so it’s unlikely to get lost.
You remain on the paved boardwalk for the majority of your journey.
However, the paved footpath runs a few hundred meters short before the lighthouse. So expect some rugged terrain at the end of your walk.
There are plenty of cafes and bars for refreshments en route.
On top of such appealing refreshments, the view throughout the walk is among the reasons to do this stroll.
Aside from the seascape, you will also see the following attractions — Las Lajas Blancas, Playa de Montaña Roja, Centro Comercial La Mulata, and more.
While the actual lighthouse is not exceptional, the location lets you see some of Playa Blanca’s best sceneries.
At the headland, you will enjoy the beautiful waves crashing onto volcanic waves and ferries sailing from and to Fuerteventura.
I’d say it’s a worthwhile walk if you fancy a serene place away from the hustle and bustle of the town.
Lastly, you can make this a one-way walk by taking bus 30, which departs from Playa Blanca and arrives at Faro park.
Final Thoughts
Hiking and walking are ideal activities to keep your body moving during a trip.
It doesn’t require any fancy equipment or extreme effort.
As long as you got sunscreen, sunglasses, and refreshments — you’re ready to go!
