What Is The Most Popular Food In Lanzarote?
Tapas! Most people who’ve stayed on the island will likely agree that tapas is the most popular food in Lanzarote.
And while I highly recommend you visit the different tapas places around the island, there are plenty of other exciting dishes for you to try.
For instance, Playa Blanca is full of lively pubs, cafes, and restaurants that offer a great selection of foods.
From hearty seafood stews and cured meats to huge churros and goat cheeses, Playa Blanca has it all.
And in this post, I’m sharing with you the best-tasting ones you shouldn’t miss!

1. Homemade Authentic Spanish Tapas

Tasting authentic Spanish tapas (appetizer-like dishes in small servings) is a priority if you want to be acquainted with the island’s culinary scene.
You’ll be amazed at how many types of tapas there are in the bars, cafeterias, and restaurants of Playa Blanca.
The most popular and typical ones are Gambas al Ajillo (shrimp in garlic oil), Papas Canarias (Canarian potatoes), and Croquetas (Croquettes).
2. (Eat All You Can) Fresh Fish

Playa Blanca, with its abundant ocean life, is one of the best places to eat and enjoy seafood.
We discovered an affordable eat-all-you-can restaurant called Shanghai Wok, where you can eat fresh fish as you like and have them cooked on the spot with your preferred sauce. It’s a wonderful dining experience, especially if you love fish dishes.
3. Bull Chop

Looking for a scrumptious meal? Try a massive well-seasoned bull chop! We’ve ordered this meat dish several times in Playa Blanca, and I still can’t get enough of the chop’s tenderness and flavors.
4. Spanish Omelette (Tortilla Española)
The Spanish Omelette or Tortilla Española is among the most famous dishes not only in the Canaries but also in the entire of Spain.
It’s a dish made with eggs, potatoes, and onions, cooked in olive oil. The recipe sounds so simple, but believe me — it’s an incredible dish you would enjoy whenever.
It can be eaten as lunch, dinner, or even as a snack and can be served as a meal or side dish.
5. Indian Food
The Indian food on the island is unlike the ones served in England. The dishes, particularly the curries, have a great distinctive taste of mixed herbs and spices. It’s an ideal choice if you want to try something new and delish.

6. Paella
This list wouldn’t be complete without the iconic paella! Regarded as one of the best Spanish comfort foods, paella is something you shouldn’t forget to eat while in Playa Blanca.
This dish which originated from Valencia is a one-pan goodness of rice, seafood, saffron, and meat, garnished with colorful veggies. It’s very filling and pairs well with Lanzarote’s local wine.
7. Giant Churros

Do you have a sweet tooth? If yes, make sure to drop by Plaza Churreria and indulge in some tasty giant churros.
The huge homemade churros are served with a cup of decadent chocolate dip and go well with hot coffee.
Many would think these sweet treats are expensive, but it’s the complete opposite. They are fairly priced and great value for money.
8. Local Pastry Desserts

You’ll find a couple of artisan bakeries in Playa Blanca, and you shouldn’t pass on the opportunity to try their homemade pastries.
From specialty cakes and fried doughnuts like rosquillas to flaky desserts like miguelitos and Napolitana de chocolate, you’ll have a sweet time eating these local pastries.
9. Serrano Ham (Jamón Serrano)

If you fancy some cured meat, I recommend you sample the Jamón Serrano.
You can buy varieties of this ham from specialist shops or order it from local restaurants. It is typically served as tapas, sliced, and topped on bread.
Chopped Serrano ham also adds great flavor and texture to other dishes such as stews, soups, and salads.
10. Local Cheeses
There are many fabulous cheesemakers on the island, and not tasting the local cheeses would be a big mistake.
The cheeses made in Lanzarote are award-winning and recognized as one of the most exquisite kinds in the cheese world.
These cheeses, made with pure fresh sheep or goat milk and often coated in paprika, are soft and offer a one-of-a-kind taste.

Final Thoughts
Trying the local foods in a travel destination is a fun and easy way to experience the place’s culture and lifestyle.
